Gap Ministries

A Moment of Kindness

Because they were helping someone else in need, “Emily” and “Kent” arrived with their voucher at the Non-Food Pantry after it was closed.

A member of the Church of Christ who happened to be there took  them to the store and bought them everything listed on their voucher. Another wonderful example of local Christians stepping up to help their neighbors!

“Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.” Proverbs 3:27

A Church Dinner Leads to Regular Attendance!

“John” & “Tracy” are living in their car, but are hopeful for the future, as he is now working full time.

When they visited the Love Covers ministry at LifePoint Church to pick up sleeping bags, they were invited to stay for dinner.  They hadn't been attending church, but the hospitality shown to them at LifePoint, inspired them to come back for church the next morning.

This is Love INC’s mission fulfilled: mobilizing local churches to transform lives in the Name of Christ.

“For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in”  Matthew 25:35

Raydene's Kids Now Have Beds!

When “Raydene” first contacted Love INC, she was a single mother with six kids living in a small travel trailer, moving from place to place on a weekly basis.

She got a Section 8 housing voucher, but struggled to find a rental for her large family. Finally, she and her children moved into a rental home, but they needed furniture. Raydene was added to our furniture waiting list, and soon a donor came forward.

When he delivered the items, he noticed some of Raydene’s children did not have beds and were sleeping on the floor. He generously offered to provide the beds that they needed.

Raydene is extremely grateful for the amazing donor who helped her get back on her feet.

"If there is a poor man with you, one of your brothers, in any of your towns in your land which the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart, nor close your hand from your poor brother; but you shall freely open your hand to him, and shall generously lend him sufficient for his need in whatever he lacks”  Deuteronomy 15:7-8

More About the Drop In Center:

The Community Drop-In Center exists to provide a safe place for people who are in need of food and other essentials while getting indoors, out of the weather. We are open daytime hours during the week as a place to go for resources and respite. It is a place to rest, get a bite to eat and visit with one another. It is a place to experience community. We serve men, women and families, many who are without adequate shelter, as well as anyone in the community that needs some support.

We serve both breakfast and lunch, and we distribute items to help people stay warm like hats, gloves, socks, and hand warmers. Personal care and hygiene items are available for those who need them.

A computer, Wi-Fi, phones, and a place to receive mail help our guests overcome communication struggles. We have a kids’ play area for those who come in with children, and we keep track of and celebrate our guest’s birthdays.

River Street Church of God Provides Showers

We can’t do it alone. No congregation can, nor should. I think we often get caught up in wanting the PR opportunity when we’re doing something good. Maybe it will attract visitors and grow our church, we think. But Jesus’ upside-down kingdom cares not for such vainglory. He called us to work together—to launch into the darkness of the world arm-in-arm. And so, when Love INC moved last year, losing the capability to offer showers to our community, our church started looking for partners to help us put a shower in our building.

It didn’t take long. Within a month a group had pulled together to make a shower happen. Habitat for Humanity offered to install the shower at-cost. Chehalem Presbyterian Church became financial partners. Patrons will be able to use personal care kits provided by Grace Baptist. And Love INC helped us apply for grants and think through the logistics.  With the team assembled, we set to raising the money needed. It took a while, but we got there in May. Habitat began the work then and over the course of the last few months we’ve been doing all that we could to get the shower ready for use.

Now we’re just a few weeks away from being ready to open. We’re excited for the opportunity to show our world what can be done when Christians link arms for the work of Christ. We’re excited to see how our co-laboring will bless and dignify those who will utilize the shower. We’re excited to share in a work bigger than our little congregation.

The shower will open in November. To begin with it will operate on Mondays from 11a-1pm and Wednesdays from 5-6p. We’d love to widen the circle of Christians dedicated to this much-needed project. If you’re interested in volunteering, just ask:

All His Peace,

Matt Ingalls

River Street Church of God

In just two months you helped “Matt” and “Christy” go from homeless to self-sufficient!

Matt and Christy are a young couple with a baby who came to Love INC recently, in need of help with just about everything. They were "couch surfing" with a friend, didn't have jobs, and weren't able to get jobs because they didn't have ID's or the means to pay the fees to get them.

Several of you, through our partner churches, helped them with things like bikes, personal care items, bus passes, Non-Food Pantry items, diapers and clothes for their baby, and laundry service. Other community partners also helped by providing free counseling and physical therapy sessions (thanks to George Fox University) and free eye exams and glasses for both of them (thanks to VSP Global Eyes of Hope).

You also helped us pay for their new identification cards!

All of these small steps led to a giant hand up for Matt, Christy and their precious baby boy.

They contacted us this week to let YOU know that Matt now has a job and they have become self-sufficient! Thank you for your generosity and allowing God to orchestrate all of these positive changes for this lovely young couple!

“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” – 2 Peter 3:9

“Emily” has a bright outlook on life thanks to essential partnerships in Newberg!

The Behavioral Health Clinic at George Fox University provides voucher for free counseling sessions for all Love INC clients. Emily stopped by the office last week to let us know that that these sessions have been incredibly helpful!

Thanks to counseling, Emily now has more confidence in herself than ever.  It has even been the springboard for her to be able to finally get a job.

She starts her new job at a local department store this week and is so thankful for everything YOU have done for her along her journey to get where she is now!

Generous Locals Gift a Bike!

“Casey” is a young man who is a newer client of Love INC. We had given him a bike to get back and forth to work, for which he was extremely grateful.

His bike ended up needing some minor repairs, so he took it to the bicycle shop here in Newberg to see what they could do for him on his limited budget.

They pointed out that the bike he had really wasn't the best for his body type, and suggested he get a different bike.

When he told the store that he had gotten the bike from Love INC, they gave him a new bike free of charge! They even generously fixed up the used bike and donated it back to the bike ministry.

“If among you, one of your brothers should become poor, in any of your towns within your land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart or shut your hand against your poor brother, but you shall open your hand to him and lend him sufficient for his need, whatever it may be.” - Deuteronomy 15:7–8
